Situated on the west coast of Istria is Rovinj, a picturesque town with beautiful cobbled streets, narrow stone palaces and houses, little shops and many churches; with the main Church of Saint Euphemia dominating the entire old town core. This city, which started its romantic existence on an island, still preserves the spirit of the Mediterranean of old. The jewel of Rovinj is the park forest Zlatni Rt, over 100 years old, which offers deep shade for long walks and practicing various sports. Gastronomic specialties are offered by numerous taverns, pizzerias and restaurants. The indented coastline with over 20 islands, islets and rocks is a paradise for sailing enthusiasts, swimmers and divers. Rovinj has a population of 14,000 people, and over 3 million over–night stays annually, winning it the title of the Croatian tourism champion on several occasions.
